Abstract | In this paper the authors discuss the use of a Virtual World (VW) platform for knowledge exchange within a complex supply chain related to the Insurance industry. A key feature of the VW is user engagement, which enables the participant to interact within the environment as if they were ‘really there’. Potential uses of the VW are discussed such as non co-located participants meetings to socialise, exchange data in real time, network and attend a variety of ‘virtual’ functions such as lectures, seminars, tutorials and peer meetings. The participants of this pilot study explored a designed and created 3D environment and, during ‘break out’ sessions, discussed the potential use of the platform within the insurance industry. |
