AbstractThis paper studies the sensitivity of an “eco-design” based House of Quality process using a case study related to the design of a medical forceps. The sensitivity analysis measures the effect of the three categorical scales used in the House of Quality to establish the relationship between stakeholder’s requirements and the engineering characteristics of products. The developed methodology for sensitivity analysis is applied to a case study to illustrate the influence that the selected levels have on the importance rating of the product engineering characteristics. A full factorial procedure is embedded within the process to enable an assessment of the stability of the ratings produced. The goal is to ensure that the designer is guided towards identifying the highest priorities including the eco-design parameters that should be adopted to produce a more sustainable product.
